Wednesday are back with their first official single since the 2023 release of Rat Saw God. The Asheville, North Carolina, indie-rock band’s “Elderberry Wine” comes with a music video directed by Spencer Kelly (who helmed the “Chosen to Deserve” visual). Find it below.
“Elderberry is known as a healing fruit, and is an ingredient in many tonics and syrups to aid the immune system. One time, however, my sister consumed them raw, and it immediately induced vomiting,” Wednesday bandleader Karly Hartzman said in a press statement. “So ‘Elderberry Wine’ is ultimately a love song about creating just the right environment for fulfillment. There’s a delicate balance that needs to be created, especially in love, for two lives to intersect without poisoning each other.”
The core Wednesday lineup—Karly Hartzman, guitarist and vocalist MJ Lenderman, Xandy Chelmis, drummer Alan Miller, and bassist Ethan Baechtold—made “Elderberry Wine.” Lenderman recently revealed, however, that he will no longer tour with the band.
