When she gets onstage, Teasdale is a whirl of motion and pure star power. (The writing on her tank top says “Follow me, I’m a cult leader.”) She compares the first moments of the show to a TV show she grew up watching in the U.K. called Stars in Their Eyes. “The format was brilliant: a guest would come on, say who they were going to impersonate, then disappear through a sliding door. Two seconds later, they’d re-emerge in a cloud of smoke and lights, completely transformed; costume, makeup, everything, and then perform a song of their choice from their idol. As a kid, that was pure magic to me.”
