Animal Collective’s Avey Tare and Geologist Form New Duo Croz Boyce

Animal Collective’s Dave Portner, aka Avey Tare, and Brian Weitz, aka Geologist, have launched a new instrumental project. The duo will put out their self-titled album as Croz Boyce on May 8 via Domino. Professional snorkeler Joseph Ricketts directed the music video for lead single “Hanging Out With a Blueberry Pop.” Watch it below.

Portner and Weitz made Croz Boyce remotely, recording their parts in their respective home cities—Asheville, North Carolina and Washington, D.C. Fellow Animal Collective member Josh Dibb, aka Deakin, mixed the album.

The last Animal Collective studio album, Isn’t It Now?, came out in 2023. Portner shared 7s, his latest Avey Tare solo record, that same year. In January, Weitz put out his own debut solo album, Can I Get a Pack of Camel Lights?
