Peter Frampton Recruits Sheryl Crow, Tom Morello, and More for Comeback Album

Peter Frampton, the celebrated guitarist who seemed set to retire in 2019 after a degenerative muscle disease diagnosis, has returned to the studio for his first album of original music in 16 years. Co-written and produced with his son Julian Frampton, Carry the Light features a supporting cast of singers and guitarists including Sheryl Crow, Tom Morello, Bill Evans, H.E.R., and Graham Nash. Check out the tracklist and listen to “Buried Treasure” below. Carry the Light arrives May 15 via UMe.

Frampton said in a press release that the album “was one of my most enjoyable projects ever. I got to work with my son Julian—writing and producing together. A first of many for us I’m sure.” The “Buried Treasure” single, featuring Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, is an homage to Petty with lyrics comprising song titles from throughout his career.

Several years after his Inclusion-Body Myositis diagnosis, Frampton came out of retirement in 2023 for a U.S. tour, on which he performed while seated. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the class of 2024.
