Downtown Boys Return With First Album in Nine Years

Downtown Boys are back. The raucous punk-rockers will release Public Luxury, the follow-up to 2017’s Cost of Living, on June 26, via Sub Pop. The single “No Me Jodas” (translation: “Don’t Fuck With Me”) comes with a head-spinning live video—watch it below—directed by John McKay and starring the Mariachi Internacional Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino. The band has unveiled a handful of short-notice live dates, also below, ahead of a bigger tour soon to be announced.

Downtown Boys singer Victoria Marie says the video “is inspired by the aesthetic of ‘chicha’—a music culture out of Peru that is also about economics, work, partying, life, desire, and nightlife. The ethic, as put by one Chicha musician, Chacalón, is two words: chamba and vacilón (hard work and partying).”

Public Luxury is co-produced by the band’s own Joey La Neve DeFrancesco and recording engineer Seth Manchester.
