Agabas bring us deathjazz in new album Hard Anger which was released on March 5 and just the word deathjazz had me intrigued.
The opener Kjærlighet for alle is more metal than jazz and a good track with an in your face constant riff and scream vocals.
The sax in Jævla menneske mixes well with the strong breakdown.
The mix of acoustic guitar, riffs, thick breakdowns and chanting in En enkel sjel make for an interesting song.
The sax solos are fabulous and are featured prominently in tracks like En vakker himmel, then complimented by a brutal growl and bassline.
Throughout the album, I’m reminded of if Less Than Jake were metal and I love it.
The album makes me want to learn Norwegian. That’s probably the thing that put me off – I couldn’t understand the lyrics being screamed at me, but that’s a downside on my own part than the actual music. The album overall is really good. It’s brutal and in your face and has some fun jazz lines. I actually quite enjoy deathjazz, now to learn what I was actually listening to lyrically.
