REVIEW – Stud Farm Mafia – Did You Have a Good Weekend?

Rockers Stud Farm Mafia released their debut EP Did You Have a Good Weekend? on March 17.

I do enjoy a hard rock record and this is quite a good one. From Moneymouth through to Gun Show, it’s full of decent riffs, catchy hooks, strong drum fills and punchy basslines.

Opener Moneymouth has a good hook of ‘put your money where your mouth is.’ So Pretty’s rapid chorus delivery is fun, especially with the lyrical content talking about being ‘so pretty’. It has a really funky instrumental too.

S.O.S’ split vocals of the more punk-style ‘this is my S.O.S’ before the calmer more melodic verses was a nice feature of the track. Although I think some of the higher vocals may be just slightly too high.

I relate all too much to the lyrics of Ten Past Ten, focusing on the monotony of the 9-5 job, but they’ve managed to make it sound fun (not the actual 9-5, but how bad the grind can be).

Gun Show actually reminds me of a rockier version of Goldie Lookin Chain, with its more hip-hop delivery and the on the nose lyrics.

If you like catchy hard rock, then you’ll absolutely love Stud Farm Mafia’s Did You Have a Good Weekend?. All six tracks standout from each other well but also work together as a cohesive record.
