Watch David Byrne Perform “When We Are Singing” on Colbert

David Byrne was the musical guest on tonight’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where he performed “When We Are Singing” from his new album Who Is the Sky? with an all-dancing band clad in cerulean-blue outfits. Byrne also gave a short interview about what fans can expect on his current tour, including some commentary on his use of ICE footage. Watch a replay of those moments below.

During the interview segment, Colbert asked Byrne if he incorporates any Talking Heads songs into his current live routine. Byrne confirmed not only that he does so, but that songs like “Life During Wartime” have taken on new context. “I licensed some ICE footage to show at the very, very end of that song,” said Byrne. “If we showed it for the whole song, it would be kind of sad, depressing, but we show it at the very end and we start off with some footage that I saw of what looked like a delivery guy on a bike being chased by the ICE guys, and he gets away! It was in Chicago. We debuted that clip because they kept coming, they keep coming.”

Byrne is currently in the midst of a huge world tour in support of his new album. He’s already wrapped up concerts in Australia and Europe, but he’s still got most of North America left to go. Afterwards, he’s headed back overseas in the summer to perform at a bunch of music festivals, including Roskilde, Mad Cool, and Latitude.
