Two decades after they first met, longtime friends and collaborators Open Mike Eagle and Kenny Segal are finally releasing a full-length album. Doomed! drops August 14 via Billy Woods’ Backwoodz label. Check out the first single, “Unfinished Concrete Initials” featuring Hemlock Ernst (aka Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring), below.
“In recent years, Kenny made it very clear that he wasn’t trying to keep having one or two beats on my projects; he wanted to build something,” the Los Angeles-based rapper said in a statement, adding, with customary panache, “Every one of Kenny’s beats is a chunk of ore from a different comet. I used each one as a canvas to paint my impression of a dead world.”
This is the fourth year in a row that Open Mike has dropped an album; his latest, Neighborhood Gods Unlimited, premiered last July. Meanwhile, Kenny’s most recent album was 2025’s The Night Green Side of It, a collaboration with R.A.P. Ferreira.
