The Avalanches and Karen O Share New Single

The Avalanches are back with another single, and this time Karen O is involved. “Blue Shadows” poses the age-old question, “Does anybody know how to mend a broken heart?” It’s built around a prominent sample of “Shadows From Nowhere,” a 1983 Italo single by the composer Celso Valli under his moniker Blue Gas. Listen below.

The new release continues an already-fruitful year for the Australian trio of Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi, and Andy Szekeres. After they returned with their first new song in six years, “Together,” in May, they followed it up with the Jamie xx collab “Every Single Weekend” last month. The group’s most recent LP, We Will Always Love You, came out in 2020. Karen O appeared briefly on that album via the interlude “Dial D for Devotion.”
