Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore Share Songs From New Film Score

Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore have lined up their second collaborative album of the year: a score for Threshold, a documentary about Olympic cross-country skier Jessie Diggins made by the American directors Lars and Torsten Brinkema. With the announcement come three songs: “Cold Open,” “Sick and Tired,” and “Gallivare 10km.” Listen to them below ahead of the project’s release on November 20.

Barwick and Lattimore’s debut as a duo was Tragic Magic, released in January and backed by a joint tour. Says Lattimore in a press release: “While Tragic Magic had constraints of instruments we were able to use, including historic, delicate and mysterious ones, along with those constraints, we had total sonic freedom. In the case of Threshold, the sky was the limit with instrumentation and we held an expansive palette, but our music existed within the framework of Jessie’s life and the vision of the directors. Holding both projects in our hands, two sides of the same coin, was challenging, mind-expanding, and satisfying, in this year of making music as a duo.”
