Corella released new album A Beautiful Way to Lose on September 18.
It’s a decent record for an indie punk sound. It’s a sound I’m not usually too much of a fan of but I quite enjoyed this.
The guitars to open the record in Rewire are quite nice and rocky, and the vocals are a cross between Arctic Monkeys and Oasis in style.
What’s the Use and Lost a Friend were the standout tracks for me. They’re more melancholy and show off Joel Smith’s vocals, which particularly in the latter, are similar to Will Ghould from Creeper’s and this really pulled me in alongside the more ethereal sound. It’s a very relatable song.
We get some more cool riffs and basslines at the start of Wolf and I love the lyrics, they come across as very uplifting about making the kingdom yours and overachieving.
The synths on the lyrics ‘all I ever wanted’ in Thunder Strike were timed perfectly as they sounded almost like they were singing the lines in a higher pitch, it worked well and really stood out.
If you like the more indie punk side of rock, then you really should listen to Corrella.
There’s strong vocals, some lovely drums holding everything together, cool synths understated bass lines and slick guitars.
