Watch ‘Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall’ Teaser Trailer From PTA

The concert film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and shot on 35mm film, will be released this winter

In the official teaser trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall, thousands of people funnel into the famed venue looking for both warmth and escape in a cold New York December. They found it in Winter, the 24-year-old Geese frontman who settled at a piano for his sold-out solo show.

Anderson shot the forthcoming concert movie on 35mm film, which adds a softness to the title card that splashes across the screen reading, “Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall: Dead at 23.” During the teaser, Winter sings just a second of “Drinking Age,” which appeared midway through the 12-song setlist. It also previews the shifts in the film when the camera isn’t set on Winter, like when the audience watching from the future are taken backstage with the crew putting the show together, or inside of the ticketing counter.

“You could have heard a moth flap its wings during the movie itself, with the crowd greeting every song with hushed reverence,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the film, which had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival. “There was a sense that we were being taken to church by this movie. Anderson’s collaboration with this gifted young man nails the one thing that every great concert movie tries gift to those who could not be there for the original moment. It does not just put you inside the theater. It makes you feel like you’re inside the music.”

Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall will be available to watch in 35mm beginning Nov. 20. The Live at Carnegie Hall album arrived on Oct. 9 featuring the full performance without visuals.

During the making of the film, Winter kept it “very close to the chest,” Geese drummer drummer Max Bassin told Rolling Stone in the band’s recent cover story. “I know that about him. But he’s working really fucking hard on it right now.”
