Japanese Breakfast Joins Silica Gel for New Song “NamgungFefere”: Watch

South Korean indie rock four-piece Silica Gel have tapped Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner for a new song titled “NamgungFefere.” “This was the first time I’ve ever written lyrics in Korean,” Zauner shared in a press statement. “Anyone who’s familiar with my work knows how much my Korean heritage has come to mean to me, so it was very personal to collaborate with such a revered Korean band and to create something for a larger Korean audience.” Watch the music video for “NamgungFefere,” directed by Jan’ Qui, below.

Zauner has kept busy since releasing her latest Japanese Breakfast LP, For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women), in March. She’s shared music videos for the album tracks “Picture Window” and “Winter in LA,” covered Gorillaz’s “On Melancholy Hill” during her Coachella 2025 set, and contributed a song to the soundtrack for Celine Song’s new film Materialists. Zauner’s ongoing international tour will return to North America in August.
